For the safety, the operator should dress the acid-proof apron and wear the face mask or goggles. Once the electrolyte splashes on the skin or cloth, you should wash by plenty of water immediately.
Battery is without the electrolyte when has been sent to customer with the generator, so top up the electrolyte with correct proportion (1:1.28) before using. Unscrew the cover of battery compartment, inject the electrolyte smoothly until located between the two scale lines which are marked on the metal plate and as close as possible to the upscale line. Please do not use the battery immediately, and it should stand for a while about 15 minutes.
At the first time to charge the battery, pay attention on continuous charging time no longer than 4 hours, otherwise, it would cause damage to the battery life.
Safety regulations of the generator operators
Generators
- The operators should have their own duty, in the working clothes and insulant shoes.
- Check the flywheel and railing cover of generator and keep them normal.
- Start only after checking and ensure the gear-box, clutch, governor, oil level, and all fasteners in normal, and the temperature of oil not lower than 20℃
- Set all the system pipeline valves on the positions of “on work”
- Check and fasten the link bolt of transmit mechanism
- Check the condition of clutch handle pressure, and the position of overspeed safety device
- Check that pressure of air bottle, and the position of overspeed safety device
- Open the blow-down valve of air pump
- Check the condition of the circulating water pump, oil pump, and fuel pump
- Turn the field resistance into the position of maximum resistance and turn off the power switch.
Operation of starting and running
- Open the pilot operated valve and start oil pump first if the diesel gen-set downtime is more than 24 hours,
- Measure the insulation resistance of exciter and operation circuit and keep it meet the requirement if the diesel gen-set downtime is more than 7 days
- Start the fuel pump to release the air in the pipeline, and check the voltage in the specified range or not. Start only when it is normal
- Check the condition of the voltage. If the voltage is normal, push the start button until the diesel generator runs
- Observe the indicator values of oil pressure gauge after the diesel engine starting. Stop the oil pump and close the scavenging pump discharge valve, insert the front clutch screw, when it rises above the predetermined value.
- Do not touch the live parts, after the generator starts, which means the generator and all electrical equipments have been charged
- Increase the diesel engine speed gradually and check before electrification, after the generator starts.
- Check the condition of the generator running when adjusting the diesel engine speed gradually. The normal condition of the electric brush and the commutator ring set should be no beating, no spark and no abnormal sound.
Adjust the output voltage and frequency of generators. The voltage should be stable, 380v±10v and 50Hz±5Hz.
- Drain the engine oil and petrol in the machine.
- Burning up the oil of the carburetor
- Remove the sparking plug, and add 30 CC engine oil into the hole which is put in by the sparking plug
- Draw the rope few times and install the sparking plug
Diesel generator power room must carries on the reasonable design, especially in ventilation and cooling. The requirements of air inlet and exhaust of diesel generating are very strict. It will enhance the efficiency of diesel generators by designing a good diesel generator room. And then how to reduce the temperature of diesel generator room:
- When there is adequate water and the water temperature is low, the cooling treatment for the air of diesel generator power room is applying water as cooling medium. The requirements of design a water cooling owner station are as follows, the adequate natural water such as well water, spring water, river water, lake water and so on. The quality of water must be good and non-toxic, tasteless, non – disease bacteria, no corrosion for metals, and the contents of inorganic and organic substances such as sediment in the water should meet the standard requirements. The temperature difference must be more than 15℃ and no less than 10℃,If the water temperature is high, the temperature difference of air supply is small, then the air supply system must be larger, and the cost of investment and operation increased. The advantages of water cooling power station comparing with the other power stations are: the inlet and exhaust air volume is smaller, so the supply and exhaust duct is smaller; and the effect of the air temperature outside water power station is smaller, which ensures room air cooling in any season. The disadvantage is huge volume water. It will not be able to use this way of cooling when the project without enough low temperature water source.
Water cooling power station can apply water spray, which means air washing. Since the hot air in room touching with the spraying water directly, the heat exchanging effect is good; in the meanwhile, some harmful dust in the air of generator room can be carried off by spraying water. Also the water cooling power station adopts face type cooling, which is the heat exchanging on the metal cooler surface between the hot air in the room and the cooling water. The advantage of this cooling way is flexible to organize cooling system, configured according to the request, no or less occupying the diesel gen-set power station. For example, some closed cycle cooling diesel generator set is equipped with a head radiator. It cannot be used in a closed generator room. Lower the temperature of generator room by changing the cooling water of diesel generators into open system and putting the cooling water into the head radiator.
- In the case of poor water source or diesel generator working in Summer, the temperature of air supply outside generator room meeting the requirement of generator room cooling, should apply to adopt air cooling or the combination of air cooling and evaporative cooling. To increase the air supply by low temperature air (5℃ lower than the requirements of generator room design) from outside the generator room, remove the residual heat in the room by air inlet and exhaust.
Air cooling power station does not require large amounts of cold water and cooling and ventilation system. The ventilation in room is simple and convenient. The volume of air inlet and exhaust is large, and the air is fresh and comfortable by changing many times per hour. However, the fan capacity of inlet and exhaust is large.
Evaporative cooling power station only requires small amount of water. According to the calculation of diesel engine power, in general it is 1.5×1.36kg/h per KW. It is no strict requirement for the water temperature, also reduces more than 50% air supply comparing with the air cooling power station, special suitable for the area which with poor water resource and high water temperature. With the experimental research work on evaporative cooling developing, evaporative cooling equipment is in the continuous improvement.
- The artificial refrigeration should be used in the case of no enough water sources and air supply temperature not meeting the requirement of air cooling power station, which is the air cooler with cold source to remove the diesel generator room heat. The construction investment and operating costs of artificial refrigeration system are high. In the winter and transition season, the ventilation and cooling of power station should apply the cold air out side. So air cooling should be the main way to remove heat of power station. Diesel power station is running by automatically unit. The person on duty cannot enter the generator room after the compartment operation. The maximum allowable temperature of room cooling design can be 40℃
- Reason: too low speed of original motivation.
Solution: adjust the original motivation speed to the rated value
- Reason: too high loop resistance of excitation.
Solution: decrease the resistance of the field rheostat to increasing excitation current, and check the additional winding connection broken or wrong for semiconductor excitation generator.
- Reason: without the neutral position of exciter brush or too small pressure of the spring.
Solution: adjust the brush to the correct position, replace brush and adjust the pressure of spring.
- Reason: breakdown of some rectifier diode.
Solution: check and replace the breakdown diode.
- Reason: short circuit or ground fault of stator winding and excitation winding.
Solution: check the fault and remove it.
- Reason: too small contact surface of the brush, low pressure and poor contact.
Solution: polish the surface of the commutator by emery cloth or adjust the pressure of spring under the low speed if it is caused by unsmoothed commutator surface
- Reason: too high revolution speed.
Solution: reduce the hydraulic turbine hydrofoil opening angle and reduce the speed of revolution
- Reason: too large air gap of shunt reactor core.
Solution: change the thickness of reactor core shim, and adjust the air gap.
- Reason: short circuit of the field rheostat, and failure of the voltage adjustment.
Solution: find out the short circuit point and remove it.
- Reason: the galloping trouble of generators.
Solution: stop and deal with the accident emergency. What are excitation modes of small hydro generator, and what are their own excitation devices? There are two excitation modes of small hydro generators, excited and motivated modes, and motivated mode by DC exciter and excited modes by semiconductor excitation, such as silicon rectifier, SCR, three harmonic excitation and so on.
(1) Reason: misalignment between the generator rotor and turbine shaft center. Solution: adjust it again
(2) Reason: loose anchor bolts, or without a solid foundation, leading the uneven subsidence. Solution: tighten the screws, reinforce the foundation, and adjust it again.
(3) Reason: no round of the shaft neck bending. Solution: check the shaft bending, and adjust it.
(4) Reason: short circuit, grounding or connection error of the rotor excitation winding. Solution: check the ring and rotor winding insulation to ground by using DC voltmeter during the processing, and correct it,
(5) Reason: short circuit or grounded of the stator winding. Solution: shutdown the generator and check.
(6) Reason: non synchronization. Solution: shutdown the generator and checking immediately if the vibration is too strong.
(7) Reason: partial failure or lightning strike. .Solution: shutdown the generator and checking immediately if the vibration is too strong.
The general reasons of generator voltage instable, and the solutions:
(1) Reason: wiring loose or brush loose. Processing: connect the wiring tightly, and adjust the brush
(2) Reason: failure or particial connecting wrong of automatical voltage regulator.
